Today we're disassembling the front and rear 3rd members from my 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser 80, building a differential holder tool, finding the cause of a squeaking sound in my front end (it was the pinion!), and working on the exhaust, cooling system, and power valve on my KTM 250 XCW. Let's go!

dude.. ya just saved my ass!! my '89 has been getting worse over the last week and a half or so not letting me turn to lock to remove the key without getting violent with the shifter haha. decided to tackle it today.. hot and miserable out to make it more enjoyable and all. after adjusting the linkage several times, using a crapton of LUBEALL, pulling a lock cylinder out of one of my parts trucks, getting it working several times only to get it all back together and have the same issue. finally realized the white inner shift button was the issue, catching and not popping up. to the inter webs trying to figure out how to fix it and you're video saved my ass. I've got like 6 of these a340h's and been swapping them for years in multiple yotas and don't think I've ever realized that damn white plastic button was threaded and adjustable! problem solved!! so just wanted to say thanx for taking the time to do and post up this video.. ya saved my ass basically, I've painstakingly acquired a lot of knowledge over the years on these beastly transmissions.. can now add this little jewel!! thanx bruh

A 3db reduction is just about half as loud. If you can cut road noise down 3db across the board, that's the same as doubling the power of your amps. A 6-7db reduction is HUGE. I really doubt it was that much. If you can get 3db you're doing wonderful. 3db is extremely noticable. (An interesting side note, your amps perceived loudness works kinda the same way. If you look at a speakers spec sheet, it will have an efficiency rating. It will look something like 87db@1w/m. What that means is that of you feed the speaker 1 watt of power, it will play at a loudness of 87db when measured from 1 meter. That in itself isn't that useful, HOWEVER, what is useful is that _EVERY SPEAKER_ will play 3db louder if you double the power. So our 87db speaker at 1watt will play at 90db if you feed it 2 watts. And 93db of you feed it 4 watts. 96db @ 8w 99dn @ 16w 102db @ 32w 105db @ 64w 108db @ 130w 111db @ 260w 114db @ 500w 117db @ 1000w All assuming the speaker can handle the wattage. At some point the speaker will start turning power into heat instead of sound, and go much past that and you will break the speaker. But then scale illustrates two things. 1. More power has its limits. There is a point where adding power isn't getting you as big of gains. 2. Getting a more efficient speaker really effects loudness a lot. There are home speakers that have extremely high efficiencies, like 105db@1w/m. Think about that. At that efficiency, the speaker needs just 4 watts to play the same loudness of our 87db@1w/m speaker does with 260 watts. You won't find these in car audio though. They are delicate and wouldn't stand up to automotive use. Just a neet tidbit. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk...

There’s a few things wrong with this experiment. Was it the exact same piece of road? Cos road surface makes a big difference. 19:07 “Exact same test going 35mph” He was going at 40mph in the first test. More speed = more noise and vibration. Plus why is he taking the stupid risk of driving one handed while looking behind him? He sits in the front so who gives a damn what its like in the back? If he wants to get the sound reading in the back, get someone to sit back there or mount the phone securely on something and read the result in the rear view mirror.

Great build! Thanks for putting together the great video, You're going to LOVE that thing. Take care reversing up steep hillsides when turning around on the trail with those tires- or if you start bouncing a tire on an obstacle. With the high pinion diff it tends to shatter parts when you go to a 37" or larger tire. Years ago we put Bobby Long Superaxles (chromoly) in the front and that seemed to fix the problem, but I'm not sure if the company that bought out Bobby's widow has the same quality or not.
